Economy taking toll upon studying abroad programs
Semester abroad coordinators are encouraging students who will forego a semester abroad to continually further their educational learning and explore the life upon studying abroad even though that lots of learners who wanted to take the opportunity to take the study abroad program can’t able to do it due to economic crises. Just like Anika Chowdhury who is the sophomore architecture learners in Virginia Commonwealth University that one of her dream is to be able to in Rome and able to see various beautiful architectural designs but it’s quite too expensive on her part to forego it. Fewer learners in U.S. school universities have studied abroad in the year 2009 rather than in 2008 based on the report that been released last year through Forum Education Abroad. Also, about 60% of the schools that have surveyed also reported that this global economy crisis had already hurt their respective educational abroad programs. Aside of that, 85% of the entire public school universities and just nearly 60% of these private universities have also reported some negative impact. Nasha Lewis who is the coordinator of this Virginia Commonwealth’s Education Abroad Program stated that this national trend does not entirely reflect in regards to what had happened into their respective school.
Last year, they have seen a slight decrease of its members from previous years that have passed. As of this year, they have not seen any decrease yet. Since, learners have still seen that mere value of international educational program. But still, learners are still concern upon funding their educational scholarships and for financial aid assistance. Lauren Stabile also stated that she was quite lucky upon getting enough scholarship towards studying in Japan. The senior human resources major stated that she didn’t have much worry in regards to its educational tuition but it’s was not quite easy to her part upon paying everything else. She also added that their culture was quite rich and very inspiring that leaves on Japan as the hardest aspect that can be done. In roughly manner about 400 until 500 learners in each year from this Virginia Commonwealth University based on the school data that been indicated. Estimated 50 to 60 students have studied abroad in each semester season of fall and spring and also 350 students during the summer season. Lewis also stated that this VCU learners can entirely apply hundreds of programs just almost any nation or to its interest. They can also focus upon educational learn various languages or even take regular classes for the majors.

Jasmine Angelina James who is currently the senior psychology learner in Virginia Commonwealth have already traveled in South Africa, Brazil, India, Namibia, Malaysia, China, Vietnam, Japan, Hawaii and Costa Rica for the entire semester. Sociology allows to play on some part upon raises on and even the aspects that been used upon. It entirely created them more sensitivity and even understanding towards individuals who have taught them in a complete manner just for different lifestyle rather than to itself. James had already spent around $30,000 in this educational program and it’s quite worthy.
